Located on nine acres in Roswell, The Atlanta Academy is a non-denominational private school that offers Mother’s Morning Out, two year old program and Preschool through Eighth Grade. A caring environment, a diverse student population, excellent teachers, and small class sizes (maximum 16 students) create a unique atmosphere where students gain confidence, explore new interests, excel academically and develop leadership skills. High expectations for achievement, creativity, self-discipline and social responsibility are the cornerstones of The Atlanta Academy.
Spanish language, technology, art, music, library, and physical education are included in the curriculum of every grade. All students have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities. These include but are not limited to Middle School debate, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, dance, intramurals, French, art, robotics, drama, chorus, band, chess, and stock market club.
Community outreach begins in Preschool and continues with increased commitment in the Middle School. Frequent educational and service-oriented field trips to performances, exhibits, as well as senior centers and The Atlanta Community Food Bank help broaden students’ perspective on
their world and what they learn in the classroom.
The Atlanta Academy is an impressive, state-of-the-art building equipped with Promethean Boards, computer availability in every classroom, a large gymnasium and a community eating area. During my tour of the school with the Admissions/Development Director, Gopi Shammas, I was struck by the manners and enthusiasm of the students who greeted me with, “Welcome to our school!”, the animated art teacher instructing a class on Picasso and the true genuineness of all the teachers I interacted with and watched instruct their classes. The school uses a writers workshop program starting in Kindergarten that is an integral part of their reading strategies philosophy. Spanish, art and music instruction start at the Pre-K level and continue through Eighth grade.
Starting in third grade, an after-school Tutorial is available from 3-4pm. The school day is from 8 a.m. – 3 pm with extended day availability until 6 pm.
The Atlanta Academy is accredited by both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Georgia Accrediting Commission, and is a member of the Georgia Independent Schools Association and the National Association of Independent Schools. For more information on the school or to arrange a school tour, please call The Atlanta Academy at (678) 461-6102 or visit www.AtlantaAcademy.com.
The Atlanta Academy has an exciting camp schedule planned this summer. The Atlanta Academy is hosting a Jr Gladiator Camp for 3 -5 year old children. The program will offer a modified curriculum and a variety of activities in
keeping with their current preschool program.
The Gladiator Camp is for Rising Kindergarten – 6th Grade students. Students will be grouped according to age and will rotate through all three activities each day. Students will take an ‘off campus’ field trip each week (excluding the week of July 4th). Weekly options throughout the summer include Lego, Robotics, Technology, Science and Forensics, Art, Music, Drama, Sports and Exciting Field Trips.
