Health4Life Program is part of Children’s Strong4Life Campaign to put a STOP to Childhood Obesity. There are so many things we need to be educated on as parents to help our children stay healthy and strong. We can start early and we can help educate our child care centers and schools with healthy practices. Thank you Children’s for putting your best foot forward to end this crisis. The information below is from Children’s website. As a mom to mom blogger for Children’s, I will do my best to keep our audience informed of their campaign and what we can do to help.
The Children’s Health4Life Program is dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of childhood obesity through a multi-specialty and evidence-based approach. Health4Life uses a family-based approach and provides complete medical assessment of obesity-related illnesses, nutrition and mental health support. The program is for all families struggling with weight issues.
Childhood obesity is a public health crisis in Georgia with both short- and long-term health implications. Childhood obesity is associated with various health-related consequences including:
- Cardiovascular disease
- Asthma
- Type 2 diabetes
- Sleep apnea
- Liver disease
We are experts in treating childhood obesity and believe it requires integrated clinical, behavioral, educational and family support services coordinated by a single group to adequately address the issue. Our multi-faceted approach includes:
1. Providing medical care
The Health4Life Program is a team of doctors, dieticians, psychologists, child life specialists and exercise physiologists who work with patients and families to provide intensive treatment of obesity, promotion of a physically active lifestyle and healthy eating habits, behavior change and a surgical weight loss program. The team works with patients and families to develop personalized physical activity, nutrition, and behavior plans that are supervised and coordinated by the clinical staff to help achieve success. Patient successes from the Health4Life Program include:
- Healthy weight loss and weight management
- Increase in daily physical activity over a sustained period of time
- Consistently improved nutritional intake
- Reduction of incidence of associated co-morbidities such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes
- Improved quality of life and self-image
2. Offering surgical treatment
Children’s provides bariatric surgery to those children with extreme weight issues. Surgical candidates are required to complete behavior intervention programs before and after surgery.
