It all starts in the beginning of the year at an informational meeting with Ms Lisa (Lisa Matthews), the Preschool Director. She informs the parents of the policies, activities and guidelines in her sweet, calm, motherly voice. Ms Lisa is no ordinary director – she is a hands-on director worthy of many awards. I am sure she has been bitten and thrown up on many times. If your child is having a hard time adjusting to his/her new environment, she will sit, hold, and cuddle with your child every day for as long as necessary. Brendan was one that didn’t want me to leave – he was only two – and those two days a week she would sit with him until he was okay. Brendan is now in his 4th year at ACA and is attending their highly touted “Transitional Kindergarten” class this year. It’s the class that some children need after Pre-K but before they enter Kindergarten. Our older son, James, attended Pre-K at ACA several years ago.
The school holds a Fall Festival every year with jumpies, train rides, games, bake sale, food and more. The Christmas program that the children put on is extraordinary with songs and costumes. In the spring there is a Mother’s Tea full of surprises! For Pre-K students and the Transitional class, the year ends with a graduation ceremony and many teary-eyed parents who find it hard to see their little one all grown up.
“Alpharetta Christian Academy, a ministry of Alpharetta First Baptist Church, educates the whole child in a loving, nurturing environment. The staff cares for each child as an individual and helps them begin their educational career with a love for learning, others and God. Working as a team with the parents, the staff is able to recognize the unique, God-given qualities of each student and then use these qualities to educate and guide them to be confident, successful adults.” (Info. from ACA)
The Preschool is for children 2-4 years old and provides an age appropriate environment that focuses on cognitive, fine motor, gross motor and social skills. Through weekly Bible stories, songs, Bible verses, and chapel time for the threes and Pre-K classes, each child is introduced to God and the world He created. The school teaches reading by phonics using the A Beka curriculum.
The Academy is K-5th grade. There is once a week chapel service and Spanish classes twice weekly. Half and full day kindergarten programs are offered and also weekly classes in art, music, and computers. The school offers after school programs for working parents as well. ACA has an outstanding extracurricular chorus and drama programs that give students opportunities to perform at various functions throughout the community. Because of small class sizes, students receive much one-on-one instruction, as well as a strong foundation in reading with the A-Beka phonics program. The elementary program is accredited through the Georgia Accrediting Commission and is a member of the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools. (Info. from ACA)
