Alpharetta Moms had a chance to interview Paw Patrol Live!’s Tony Ardolino, who plays Ryder. Paw Patrol Live! “The Great Pirate Adventure!” will visit Atlanta’s Fox Theatre for four shows starting on Saturday, June 30 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday, July 1 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The live show follows the heroic pups as they embark on a pirate-themed adventure to uncover hidden treasure. Tony is excited to be playing Ryder and it sounds like he is a genuine person. It is so refreshing to see how passionate actors are about their profession!
1. Tony, you have so many theater credits for such a young actor! What made you decide to go into acting?
I actually grew up in a sports family and my family put me in baseball as a kid. But in first grade, I saw a live version of Beauty and the Beast in school. So, when I came home from school, I put together a small backyard production of it featuring my little brothers and neighbors. From there on out, my parents saw that I really enjoyed performing and they quickly pulled me from baseball and started driving me around New Jersey to be a part of the theater. I am very lucky to have such supporting parents in my life who saw how much I loved theater and let me do what I love.
2. What is your favorite Role so far?
Well besides getting to play Ryder, I have to say my favorite role I have ever played was “Jack” in Into the Woods. I had the opportunity to perform it with a great company in San Luis Obispo, California. Into the Woods has always been my favorite musical and when I was offered the role of Jack, I was so excited. I loved it so much not only because I got to sing Sondheim’s beautiful music every night, but because it was the first time where I tried to mix in a piece of my personality into a character. I wanted to make Jack modern but still keep that boyish innocence and naïve humor. I remember after the show a woman stopped me and told me she has seen Into the Woods over twenty times and my performance of Jack was one of the best and most original she has seen. That really meant a lot, because as actors, we love to take risk as well as show who we are through the story and costumes of another character.
3. As a mom to 11 and 16-year-old boys, I had no idea how huge Paw Patrol is for the younger ones! The moms are ecstatic about the show! What do you love most about your character Ryder in Paw Patrol Live? I am sure you are ready but prepared for some enthusiastic fans in Atlanta.
Getting to play Ryder is a dream come true. Every day I get to run out on that stage and the first thing I always hear is “Mommy look! It’s Ryder!” To me, that’s the coolest thing in the world. Ryder is smart, kind, and teaches kids that no matter the odds, you can always lend a helping hand. “No job is too big, no pup is too small.” I love playing the leader of the PAW Patrol and cannot wait to see all the fans in Atlanta! Our show is full of singing, dancing, and audience interaction, so come and “Shake your tail” because it’s a show and party you’re not going to wanna miss.
