AlpharettaMoms and Southern Baked Pie Company are teaming up for a Day of Giving! 10% of all sales at the Southern Baked Pie Alpharetta shop on Tuesday, October 15 will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta! You can purchase in the store, over the phone, online (mention CHOA in comments section) and even place orders for future pick up dates as long as they are paid for on 10/15. AlpharettaMoms has a long-standing relationship with The Zone at CHOA where we take crafts several times a year and spend time with the children and making crafts. CHOA was an easy decision to make when I spoke with the representative at Southern Baked Pie!
Southern Baked Pie Company is a gourmet, hand-crafted pie company started by Amanda Wilbanks in Gainesville, Ga. The store specializes in fresh baked sweet pies, savory pies, and quiche. Their pies are available at four retail locations and can be shipped nationwide.
Did you know? Southern Baked Pie Company uses all local farmers for their sweet pie’s and source anything local that they can. The chicken pot pie is made with Springer Mountain Farm chicken. They roast the chicken, make their own rue, and everything is from scratch and using the very best ingredients. So, yes their pies are more expensive than others but at the same time there is nothing about them that is a Sara Lee or Kroger pie!
Baking has always symbolized love and family to Amanda Wilbanks, founder of Southern Baked Pie Company. The 32-year-old Gainesville-based founder and cookbook author’s earliest memories are filled with time spent in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother. After earning a degree from the University of Georgia, Amanda moved to Atlanta and then to Gainesville. And it was her mother-in-law who taught her to make French pastry dough, just before her husband’s birthday. “She said, ‘Let’s make Alex’s favorite pie for his birthday’ and started pulling flour, sugar, and everything out of my cabinet and making it from scratch,” Wilbanks says. “That’s where it all began.”
The birthday pie was a hit, and in September 2012, Wilbanks started experimenting with other pies for fun. Later that month, Alex came home with news: he signed her up to sell pies at a Lawrenceville festival. They grew the business by selling pies at festivals and before they knew it they decided to lease a space and turn pie making into a business. The Gainesville location was later joined by stores in Buckhead, Alpharetta, Vinings and the company continues to ship signature sweet and savory pies around the country. (Atlanta Magazine 10/2018)
